Taunton Military Wives Choir will be joining us at Somerset Armed Forces Day on Saturday 6th July.
The first Military Wives Choirs came together in Catterick Garrison in 2010 and was created by Nicky Clarke and Caroline Jopp. Nicky Clarke wrote to Choirmaster Gareth Malone.
In 2011 Gareth Malone he visited the RMB Chivenor military base in Devon as he hoped to form another Military Wives Choir with the wives and girlfriends that had been left behind by the troops who were deployed in Afghanistan at that time, a television programme was made about it and shown on the BBC and the rest is history as they say.

The crowning glory for the Military Wives Choir was to perform Wherever You Are , the song based on their letters and lyrics in front of the Queen and Royal family at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
There are now 72 choirs that are across the UK and internationally and is a community of over 2000 women. The choirs welcome the women who’s lives are impacted by their connection to the military.
Although they are called the ‘wives’ choir, you don’t have to be a military wife to join, it’s open to mothers, girlfriends, sisters etc.
As all go through similar experiences with military life, the choirs offer a bond, trust and moral support as they understand how other wives and family members can be feeling while their loved one is deployed. While they are having fun, they are making friends and memories along the way.
Another plus with these choirs is that getting together and singing improves their mental and physical health and wellbeing
