Representatives from the charity National Coastwatch will be with us on Armed Forces Day, they are a voluntary organisation that is keeping watch along UK shores. There are around 60 National Coastwatch stations that are operational and these are manned solely by volunteer watchkeepers and there’s more than 2600 volunteers around the British Isles giving up their time to provide eyes and ears along the coast. They monitor radio channels, and they listen out when there is poor visibility.
They have been trained to deal with emergencies and each and every volunteer offers a variety of skills and experience, they are given full training by the National Coastwatch and this ensures that high standards are always met.
