THE Red Arrows will perform a spectacular flypast over Vivary Park in Taunton on Saturday as part of Somerset Armed Forces Day.
The RAF’s aerobic team be visible in the skies above the park at 2:19pm during the event aimed at giving local people the chance to show their support for the troops.
Dragon’s Den investor and entrepreneur Deborah Meaden will officially open the free-to-attend Somerset Armed Forces Day at Vivary Park on Saturday, July 2 at 10am.
The event will launch near the bandstand and will then feature an extensive programme of activities and entertainment until 6pm.
Members of the armed forces, including their standard bearers, will be present all day.
Armed Forces Day is an annual event held on the last day of June across the UK to commemorate everyone serving in the military.
An event spokesperson said: “Not long to wait now for the biggest and most exciting event in Taunton.”
“Throughout the day there will be lots to see, do and enjoy! The park is being split into zones including military, re-enactment, stalls, children’s play area and bars. There are also going to be bands and choirs performing on the bandstand and in the arena.”
“Tone FM will have their tent close to the centre and will be broadcasting live throughout the day. Pop over and see them to get a mention on the radio.”
“Stormtroopers will be all around the park too. What an amazing photo opportunity!”
“We are also being joined by the Rocket Man, who will be performing stunts for everyone to enjoy.”
Somerset Armed Forces Day president David Parkman received confirmation of the Red Arrows’ planned flypast earlier this week.
They were last in Somerset just weeks ago as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which saw them fly over over Vivary Park, Minehead and Wellington.
Mr Parkman has expressed his and the organising committee’s thanks for the support they have received from sponsors and others who have made the event possible.
He has organised a special display to further thank those people during the event.
Somerset Armed Forces Day will end with a short service and sunset parade at 6pm.
