The annual Armed Forces Day is a chance for everyone to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, and the organisers behind the planned Taunton and Somerset Armed Forces Day 2020 event recently met with Somerset West & Taunton Council to discuss their plans to hold the event in Taunton’s iconic Vivary Park. The event will take place on Saturday 4th July 2020.
Following on from the successful 2019 event, held on Wilton Lands, Members from the event committee met with Leader of the Council, Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, the Mayor of Taunton, Cllr Fran Smith and other Council members and officers to present their plans for a bigger and better event for 2020.
Philip Winks, Event Committee Chair said, ‘following on from the success of last year’s Armed Forces Day event, we are determined to make Taunton the hub of Armed Forces Day celebrations across Somerset for 2020. Planning is already well underway to build on the success of last year’s event and to grow the range of exhibitors. We want to make the event a county-wide celebration of our Armed Forces, Reserves, Cadets and Veterans, supported by local businesses and open to all the community with free entry.’
A new website for the event is currently under construction and will allow the community to get involved, make suggestions and view the attractions on offer. Armed Forces Day is designed to be a fun day out for all the family, and it is hoped that the Taunton and Somerset Armed Forces Day Event will become an annual event, held in the County Town of Taunton, attracting visitors from across the region.
